On Sunday evening, at the 67th Tony Awards Ceremony at Radio City Music Hall, the musical\u00a0Pippin<\/em> was honoured with four Tony Awards including the prize for \u201cBest Revival of a Musical.\u201d<\/p>\n

Producer Barry Weissler took the stage to receive the famous Tony, thanking Les 7 doigts de la main co-founder Gypsy Snider and her creative team. In an interview with La Presse, Weissler said that without the participation of Les 7 doigts de la main, he would not have taken the risk to re-create\u00a0Pippin<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Actress Andrea Martin was awarded a Tony for \u201cBest Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical.\u201d During her acceptance speech at Radio City Hall, Martin thanked and congratulated Gypsy Snider: \u201cOh my god, Gypsy Snider, [thank you] for making a dream come true and letting me run away with the circus. You\u2019re brilliant.\u201d<\/p>\n

Patina Miller also earned a Tony for \u201cBest Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical\u201d and director Diane Paulus received the honour for the \u201cBest Direction of a Musical.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gypsy created all the circus elements in\u00a0Pippin<\/em>, creating multiple tableaus and staging seven circus artists, several of them former performers in other productions with Les 7 doigts de la main. Gypsy started collaborating with director Diane Paulus in 2011, planning the integration of circus in the show. In August 2012, she began rehearsals and show creation at the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, before coming to New York, where the show had its official premiere at the Music Box Theater on April 25, 2013.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Tony Awards recognize achievement in live Broadway theatre. Founded in the United States in 1947, the awards are generally considered theatre\u2019s equivalent to the Oscars for excellence in film, the Grammys for the music industry, and the Emmys for excellence in television.<\/p>\n

The prizes are awarded by a jury of over 700 voters coming from various areas of the entertainment industry, and are presented by Tony Award Productions, a joint venture of two organizations: the Broadway League, the national trade association for the commercial theatre industry; and the American Theatre Wing, a not-for-profit service organization for both the theatre community and the community at large.<\/p>\n
