BEATS COLLECTIVE took the interactive and participatory dimensions of their show one step further thanks to the prototyping support program offered by Les 7 Doigts and the SAT.
BEATS is a project that combines contemporary dance and interactive technologies to create a unique immersive experience. In this transdisciplinary show, sound, visual, and choreographic designs are linked by digital technology, and humans stand at the heart of the project.
The new research phase that took place at LAB7 focused on a reactive dance floor, where the movements of dancers and participants influence the performance in real time through floor projections and AI-based detection systems. In this space, the spectator becomes an actor, and every gesture contributes to the performance.
With the support of the LAB7 and SAT teams, the collective explored the possibilities of tracking a large space that can be used both as a performance space and a dance floor. Using systems developed to analyze data on positions and movements in space, the artists created various visual and sound effects, as well as a staging designed to bring participants into action, as close as possible to the dancers.
The prototyping support program welcomes three projects combining performing arts and technological arts in 2025. The projects benefit from customized support, both in the preparation and execution of a two-week prototyping phase, in the studios of the 7 Doigts Creation Center.
