Following the remarkable success of The Circus Princess, The 7 Fingers is announcing a new collaboration with the Moscow Musical Theatre. The show is scheduled to open March 5, 2020.
Montreal – The 7 Fingers have been working with the Moscow Musical Theatre since 2013. The Russian organization hosted the collective’s signature shows – Traces in 2013 and Cuisine & Confessions in 2015 – before entrusting the company with the staging of The Circus Princess, a contemporary version of the 1920’s cult operetta. The show has since been presented more than 270 times, its most recent run having played from November 2 to December 8, 2019. Further performances are planned for several more years.
Alongside signature shows still being presented in Moscow (Passengers in January 2019), a new project is being launched. The new show, a musical, will be an original work directed by The 7 Fingers co-artistic director, Sébastien Soldevila.
“It is the story of a young girl who suddenly finds herself propelled on stage following a reality show. The aspiring performer is ready to fly too close to the sun, willing to be a star at any cost,” explains Sebastian. “I am fortunate to be surrounded by an extraordinary team who know me by heart,” he adds. The artistic team will include several Montrealers, most notably composer Maxim Lepage, with whom Sébastien collaborated on The Last Chapter presented in Sharjah earlier this year, choreographer Geneviève Dorion-Coupal (The Circus Princess, The Last Chapter), and lighting designer Éric Champoux (Cuisine & Confessions, Passengers, The Last Chapter, The Circus Princess). As with The Circus Princess, the poster for the new production will be designed by the Montreal firm Compagnie et Cie.
An initial two-week creative workshop was held in September in the Studios of The 7 Fingers. The remaining production rehearsals will take place this fall with Russian artists in Moscow.
The show will be part of the Muscovite theatre’s repertoire and will be presented approximately 80 times a year for a minimum duration of three years.

About the Moscow Musical Theatre
The Moscow Musical Theatre is the first and the only theatre in Russia dedicated to the genre of musicals.
Founded in 2012, theatre moved to its new venue on Puskinskaya Square, in the very heart of Moscow, in 2017.
Among the productions in its repertoire are “All About Cinderella,” “Crime and Punishment,” “The Circus Princess,” and “Reverse.”
The Moscow Musical Theatre and the collective The 7 Fingers have been collaborating for several years. The 7 Fingers’ signature shows have been presented on the Moscow Musical Theatre’s stage since 2013. In 2016, the two organisations co-produced “The Circus Princess.” Today, they are working together once again, this time on a new musical featuring original music and librettos.
