28th edition of the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain
The Quebecois circus collective The 7 Fingers continue their winning ways in Paris. 4 years ago Patrick Léonard and Sébastien Soldevila won the Nikouline Prize with their diabolo number. This year, it was Emilie Bonnavaud and Sébastien Soldevila’s (once again!) turn to bring back a Gold Medal from the 28th Edition of the prestigiousFestival Mondial du Cirque de demain, which took place from the 1st to the 4th of February 2007 in Paris, France. Emilie (Mimi) and Sébastien were awarded the Gold Medal for their dynamic hand to hand act which was choreographed by Shana Carroll, herself an artist and founding member of The 7 Fingers (Les 7 Doigts de la Main).
Truly the “Olympic Games of Circus”, the Festival Mondial du Cirque de demain (the International Circus Festival of Tomorrow) is an international competition featuring the world’s best circus acts, and ultimately unveiling tomorrow’s rising stars. For this, the 2007 edition, approximately thirty featured circus acts were in competition and Germany, Canada, China, the United-States, France, Russia, and the Ukraine were among the many countries invited to participate. Needless to say the competition was extremely tough. This Gold Medal as well as The City of Paris Prize, The Moulin Rouge Prize and the Grimailo Studio Prize were awarded to Sébastien and Mimi at the televised closing ceremony. It was the culmination of a long artistic and acrobatic partnership between Mr. Soldevila and Ms. Bonnavaud.
Sébastien, also a founding member of The 7 Fingers, and Mimi, herself a Company member, will now enjoy a few days of well deserved rest before the 7 Fingers kick off of a French Tour of the their original show LOFT which begins the 20th February in La Rochelle.
